Christmas on Cavedale

With the rain bogging down most of the trails at Annadel State Park, I decided to finally dust off the road bike for a much needed mountain fest.  Cavedale road in the Sonoma valley is one of my favorite climbs, as it offers a great view of the Monte Rosso Vineyard as well as the rest of the Sonoma Valley and even a little bit of San Francisco.  Also, as you can see from the photo above, the road is named quite literally and appropriately.  If you're starting in downtown Sonoma, head up Highway 12 towards Santa Rosa to find Cavedale road on the right.  The climb takes you up to the intersection with Trinity Grade, which you can take back down into Sonoma valley or over into Napa if you're looking for a longer ride.  The descent down Trinity is quite steep so make sure you give your bibs a thorough wash afterwards.
